December 21, 2018 – The International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP) and the GIZ Global Programme CONNEX Support Unit have formalized a partnership that will extend ISLP’s expertise and assistance to the Government of Afghanistan as it works to develop the country’s renewable energy sector.
The objective of this collaboration is to promote, support, and facilitate the development of Afghanistan’s renewable energy sector to ensure access to reliable power sources for the Afghani population and businesses.
Access to reliable, sustainable energy is a necessary foundation for a country’s economic development as outlined in United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 7. In Afghanistan, this goal remains elusive as the majority of the population is without access to electricity, while the demand for it grows substantially each year.
The Government of Afghanistan is actively seeking to identify, tender, and develop renewable energy projects that can meet the growing energy demands of the country. ISLP and the CONNEX Support Unit are uniquely positioned to provide the legal, environmental, and financial expertise in the selection and implementation of suitable projects that will sustainably build Afghanistan’s energy generation capacity.
By combining ISLP’s focus on advancing legal solutions to development challenges, and the GIZ Global Programme CONNEX Support Unit’s dedication to sustainable development, Afghanistan will receive expert support as it builds it energy capacity and moves towards achieving its development goals.
