2024 SUMMER LAW FELLOWSHIPS – NOW HIRING

The International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP) welcomes law student applicants for summer public interest law fellowships.  This is a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic, mission-driven team on complex and impactful law and development matters.

Fellows will work closely with ISLP attorneys as well as clients and volunteer senior legal experts. Our team members are based in several countries, and fellows can work remotely from anywhere in the world.  As ISLP is not able to guarantee funding for summer placements, applicants are encouraged to seek external funding such as law schools’ summer public interest stipends.

About ISLP

ISLP is an independent nonprofit non-governmental organization with a 20+ year track record. We work to promote the rule of law, good governance, and inclusive and sustainable development around the world. Our model is to mobilize pro bono senior-level legal assistance to support governments, civil society, and social enterprises. ISLP has worked in over 100 countries, primarily in Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

The breadth of our work includes legislative review and law reform, negotiating complex financial transactions (e.g., large infrastructure projects), comparative and international law research, and developing practice-based educational tools and capacity-building workshops. For more information, visit our website: https://islp.org.

Our practice areas include:

  • community-inclusive development and civil society engagement
  • natural resources management
  • social enterprises and innovative finance
  • responsible technology, digitalization, and digital governance
  • investment and trade
  • international taxation
  • media law and freedom of expression
  • accountability and transparency

Work Environment

ISLP works on the principle of trusted collaboration, both within our team and alongside our partner organizations. We strive to foster a dynamic and supportive working and learning environment. Summer fellows participate in global team meetings (conducted via Zoom), ISLP-sponsored capacity-building activities for clients and partners, and relevant meetings with clients and partner organizations. Most international activities are presently conducted remotely, and no travel is required for participation.

Duration

To allow maximum benefit of the fellowship experience, we encourage a commitment of 10-12 weeks or more, ideally starting in/around May and ending in August/September.

Funding

Fellows are encouraged to seek public interest summer funding through their law schools, as ISLP is not able to guarantee summer fellowship funding. We are committed to providing all fellows with a productive, enriching, supportive, and enjoyable professional experience.
