Yasmine Lahlou, Partner, Chaffetz Lindsey; ISLP Board Member

Yasmine Lahlou“I first became involved with ISLP in 2007 or so when two lawyers that I greatly respected and admired, Dave Cook and towering figure Dick Winfield, invited me to help them in freedom of speech work in Eastern Europe. As my mentor, David Lindsey, was a board member of ISLP, I and the firm subsequently had the opportunity to provide international arbitration representation and training to sovereign clients. As such, I have assisted the team defeating a claim by a foreign investor against Liberia, and was lead counsel representing an Afghan power utility against a foreign consultant terminated after allegations of embezzlement. I also advised the Ministry of Justice of Ethiopia in accessing the New York and CISG convention, and offered international investment arbitration training to the international division of that Ministry. I have also assisted a Latin American non-profit organization in identifying all environmental international law and other instruments to ensure full accountability by Latin American local and national governments in relation to their Paris Accords commitments.

“My pro bono work for ISLP has produced a great sense of pride and accomplishment because we delivered high quality, critically important legal support to governments who needed such support. I am incredibly proud and grateful to be a Board Member and volunteer of such a high quality organization, with outstanding staff and unlimited ambition.”
