Yesterday marked the beginning of ISLP’s training with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to strengthen the investigation and prosecution of financial and economic crimes in Kenya (February 11 – 13, 2019).
The session was officially opened by the Canadian High Commissioner for Kenya, Ms. Lisa Stadelbauer, and the Deputy CEO of the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission, Mr Michael Mubea.
Attended by staff of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, including lawyers and investigators, this training brings together experts on forensic investigations, anti-money laundering, asset recovery and legal compliance to build the capacity of these local professionals to address these issues.
ISLP has conducted similar capacity building events in Kenya, that in the last few years has experienced an increase in the investigation and prosecution of financial and economic crime. There is still a need however, to enhance technical capacity of the various agencies involved in these investigations. Given that Asset Tracing and Asset Recovery are the most crucial approaches in fighting corruption worldwide, it is important that experts in the field exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences.
Through these expert-lead initiatives, ISLP works towards its goals for Kenya that include reducing human rights violations, strengthening the rule of law, reducing corruption, and enabling sustainable and equitable economic development.
