Organized by UNESCO with International Senior Lawyers Project Zimbabwe-based lawyer Bridget Mafusire, this event addressed the growing use of legal tactics to limit free expression. Participants explored how powerful actors exploit defamation, economic crime, and other legal claims to burden media outlets and journalists with costly litigation, stifle critical reporting, and undermine freedom of expression, and discussed ways to strengthen legal protections and support for independent journalism.
