In 2018, Guyana was seeking to prepare its economy for an influx of capital when oil production commenced. In order to do this, Guyana needed to update its legislation to allow for e-commerce to make it easier for companies to be registered and allow greater access to international markets.
ISLP Director of Sustainable Development Katerina Drisi and volunteer and customs expert Jean-René Broussard of Akin Gump advised the Ministry of Legal Affairs on a new customs bill, the Single Window Operations Bill, which simplifies the import and export of products to/from Guyana.
Katerina and Jean-René traveled to Guyana where they visited the Ministries of Business, Telecommunications, and Health, as well as the Guyana Revenue Authority and its Environmental Protection Agency to discuss the draft bill.
