Tax
ISLP’s tax work focuses on enabling clients in the Global South to leverage tax to advance sustainable development. ISLP works with relevant government departments, including ministries of finance and internal revenue departments. ISLP also works with international multilateral organizations; regional associations; and international, regional, and national non-governmental organizations. Projects are driven by clients’ needs, with possible support including but not limited to:
- Reviewing and drafting national and sub-national tax-related legislation, including sector-specific policies;
- Providing assistance on tax-related aspects of specific transactional matters, with a focus on large-scale infrastructure projects and projects in the extractives sector;
- Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating bilateral tax agreements;
- Drafting model policy and legal documents;
- Providing high-level guidance on national tax policy;
- Conducting legal research; and
- Facilitating/leading workshops and trainings.
ISLP tax volunteers for these engagements are typically senior-level lawyers and non-lawyers focused on international tax, with transactional expertise and/or expertise related to global tax policy and other fiscal matters, and often with extensive experience providing guidance to governments in the Global South.
