The International Senior Lawyers Project, in partnership with the Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), hosted a webinar on facilitating international investment in energy access for underserved communities.The event brought together global legal experts to share practical insights on navigating regulatory, legal, and investment challenges in the minigrid sector. The session highlighted the role of strong legal frameworks and cross-border expertise in scaling clean energy access and supporting sustainable, locally led development. Speaking were Tom Alabaster from Ropes & Gray, Sam Saunders from Kirkland & EllisRebecca Jack from Winston & Strawn, attorney Joelle Tobin and ISLP board member Tom Brunner. ISLP Executive Director Sara Lulo opened the session emphasizing the importance of pro bono, demand-driven legal support in strengthening locally led development efforts and creating enabling environments for renewable energy investment. The webinar underscored how access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy is foundational to economic growth and climate goals, while also acknowledging the persistent legal, financial, and regulatory challenges facing minigrid developers. The discussion aimed to equip AMDA members with actionable guidance to navigate complex legal landscapes, attract capital, and support long-term project sustainability.
