African Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) hosted an Innovation Exchange Forum featuring ISLP’s Laura Pavlovic, Yeages Cowan, Gordon Myers, and Thomas Brunner discussing maintaining strong relationships with Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and managing non-financial issues over the life of a DFI investment. The session explored non-financial considerations that shape a DFI-backed investment, from environmental and social safeguards, governance and control rights, and operational restrictions to compliance, integrity, and reporting requirements. A composite case study based on a publicly reported renewable energy transaction examined how these issues can emerge across the investment lifecycle, from pre-investment due diligence and negotiation through monitoring and eventual exit. ISLP has an ongoing partnership with AMDA, which offers Innovation Exchange Forums to address challenges faced by minigrid developers and provide pathways to profitability and scale.
