NEW YORK, August 6, 2019. The International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP) is delighted to announce the appointment of Sara A. Lulo as its Executive Director, effective October 1. Ms. Lulo currently serves as Assistant Dean of the Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut.
Ms. Lulo has had a distinguished career in international and public interest law. At Yale, she has spearheaded international programs at the law school, having joined the university as the Founding Director of the Gruber Program for Global Justice and Women’s Rights. Previously, she was the Founding Executive Director of the Avon Global Center for Women and Justice at the Cornell Law School in Ithaca, New York, after beginning her legal career as an international litigator with a prominent US law firm. She has extensive experience on the ground in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. She holds undergraduate, law and master’s degrees from Cornell as well as a master’s degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from New York University. At the Cornell Law School, Ms. Lulo was Article Editor of the Cornell Law Review. She is a member of the New York Bar.
ISLP provides pro bono legal assistance to governments, civil society organizations, and other clients in developing countries, leveraging global legal resources in alignment with client needs to support just, accountable, and inclusive development. Founded in 1999 and based in New York with a London-based sister organization, ISLP is active in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
Boris Dolgonos, co-chair of the ISLP Board of Directors, welcomed Ms. Lulo’s appointment. “Sara is a dynamic, innovative pioneer in international pro bono legal work. She will lead ISLP into key new initiatives while building on our current successes. We are thrilled to welcome her to ISLP.”

In parallel with Ms. Lulo’s appointment, the ISLP is pleased to report that Alessandra Phillips, who has served as Acting Executive Director since January, has been appointed as Director of ISLP’s Community Inclusive Development Program. Co-Chair Christopher Cross expressed “the ISLP Board’s deep appreciation for the exceptional work that Alessandra has done as Acting ISLP Executive Director. We look forward to her equally robust stewardship of the important CID program and her work with key funders.”
