On 27th and 28th June 2018, ISLP (in partnership with the Strathmore Extractives Industry Centre) held  a training on “Fundamental Considerations of Oil & Gas Transactions” at Strathmore University, Nairobi. The  two-day interactive workshop introduced participants to the fundamental considerations, agreements and other documentation that typically underlie Oil and Gas transactions.

The workshop was led by local and international experts: Simon Tysoe, a partner in Latham & Watkins LLP London office and Co-Chair of the firm’s Oil & Gas Industry Group; Shin Imai and Angela D’Elia members of the Justice & Corporate Accountability Project; and Jonah Mngola, the Director of the  Strathmore Extractives Industry Centre.

The training provided local lawyers and civil society members with the tools and skills needed to engage effectively with major multinationals and to negotiate on behalf of affected communities.

Participants of this workshop were practicing domestic lawyers who have a willingness and commitment to offering services to communities on a pro bono or low-cost basis; and representatives from CSOs who operate in counties in Kenya that are negatively impacted or at the risk of being negatively impacted by the oil and gas development process.
