The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) in collaboration with the International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP) presented two webinars as part of its popular Commercial Law Training Program (CLTP). The webinars were focused on the laws governing business insolvencies and business rescues in Zimbabwe. Over 50 senior and junior practitioners participated in the series. The first session on July 21st 2020 focused on strategies to be deployed by attorneys representing business debtors, and was followed by a session on July 28th 2020 that addressed insolvency proceedings from the perspective of attorneys representing creditors. The CLTP faculty for these webinars included Claudious Nhemwa, managing partner of C. Nhemwa & Associates (Harare), Dan DeMarco, partner of Hahn Loeser & Parks (Cleveland), and Craig Owen White, also a partner of Hahn Loeser & Parks as well as vice chair of ISLP.

The CLTP has been conducted annually for over ten years and is designed to ensure that Zimbabwean lawyers are knowledgeable of the latest trends, customs, and best practices in representing clients in commercial and business transactions. This year, the training was tailored to upskill local lawyers in navigating the legal landscape as the economic meltdown, which has resulted in the folding of many companies in Zimbabwe, continued to increase due to the economic slow-down brought on by COVID-19. In the face of COVID – 19 and the challenges that it has brought on, ISLP remains wholly committed to the provision of highly qualified technical legal expertise now more than ever to our local partners in Zimbabwe and across Sub-Saharan Africa.
