Advocates and representatives of leading civil society organizations from Bolivia, Colombia, and Peru, gathered in Bogota, Colombia, on April 4th and 5th for a training on Large-Scale Infrastructure Projects: Life Cycle, Project Financing, and Advocacy Mechanisms for Civil Society. These issues were analyzed from both a corporate and a business and human rights perspective. The aim was to provide civil society representatives with insights into institutional arrangements, legal tools, and latest trends on large-scale infrastructure projects in the region.

ISLP’s volunteers for this training were two project finance lawyers with experience in cross-border transactions in Latin America, and an expert lawyer in multi-stakeholder platforms and business and human rights. The expertise of the civil society attendees together with the expertise of ISLP’s volunteers sparked rich conversations aimed at identifying strategies that can be implemented by civil society at a national and regional level for effective engagement and dialogue with project developers and governments to promote better environmental and social standards in infrastructure projects in the Andean region.
